Women of the Wild West: BEYONCE

The Wild, Wild West: where men could run around and do as they pleased with their scratching and spitting and guns and "guns", if you catch our meeting. There was one group of women who rose above that rabble of testosterone, the sharp-shooting women of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West. No show, however was big enough to contain the talents of Annie Oakley, Calamity Jane, May Lillie and Lillian Smith who would soon step out from under Bill's shadow and thumb to strike out on their own. Soundtracking this (Sasha) Fierce journey of self-empowerment will be the work of Queen Bey, Yoncé, Beyoncé, as we explore who run the world?! Girls!

Written by Courtney Hopkin. Directed by Asaf Ronen with vocal arrangement by Lindsey McGowen and accompaniment by Tosin Awofeso and Allen Fisher. Featuring Emily Cawood as May Lillie, Brittni Cocchiara as Calamity Jane, Cené Hale and Annie Oakley, Kim Stacy as Lillian Smith, with special appearances by Courtney Hopkin as Sheriff Bechdel, Tosin Awofeso as Buffalo Bill and Allen Fisher as Frank Lillie.

The Jukebox Musical Project continues its mission to create original Broadway productions around the songbooks of arbitrary popular musical artists. With one brow cocked high and the other cocked low, we merge themes and music that would have no one would ever have thought to throw together: The Italian Renaissance and Queen, the Salem Witch Trials and Radiohead, and the Soviet space race and Phil Collins.
